December 17: First Day of the O Antiphons

I don’t think I’ve ever posted these before, but these are the O Antiphons, seven verses that are traditionally prayed in the final week leading up to Christmas. I decided it would be fun to post them here on my blog as a sort of final countdown to Christmas. And here’s a fun fact: the O Antiphons were the inspiration behind the song “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel”. Seriously, compare the verses. You’ll catch it. It’s fairly obvious.

O Wisdom that comest out of the mouth of the Most High, that reachest from one end to another, and orderest all things mightily and sweetly, come to teach us the way of prudence!

The English translations come from fisheaters.com.
