A year may come when I run out of things to post for Tolkien Week, but it is not this year! Last year I posted the Peter Hollens versions of the credit songs for both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so this time I figured I’d post the original versions. Not all of them have official music videos or things like that, so expect some improvisation.
We’re starting of the week with this lovely performance of “Song of the Lonely Mountain” performed live by Neil Finn during the world premiere of An Unexpected Journey. Seeing this makes me wish I had gotten to be at the premiere.
It’s that time of year again, folks, time to celebrate all things Tolkien and Middle-Earth! I’m planning on doing something a little different this year, though. Typically I post my favorite scenes from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, but I realized that I was pretty much posting the same scenes over and over. So this year I decided to branch out and post the closing credits songs from each film.
Here’s the catch, though–these aren’t the original versions. These are covers performed by acapella singer Peter Hollens, and they sound amazing. We’re starting off the week by posting his cover of An Unexpected Journey‘s song, “Song of the Lonely Mountain”.
Let’s get this party started, people!
For this year’s Tolkien Week, I decided to also post some clips from the Hobbit trilogy. Yes, my relationship with that trilogy is messy and complicated, but there were a few good things to come out of it. This haunting rendition of “Song of the Lonely Mountain” is one of them.
I’m with Bilbo. I would totally go off on an adventure after hearing this song.
